So we are 0 for 2 at LSPR.

After finishing some shakedown runs on Thursday afternoon (thanks Marc Goldfarb for sitting in for Scott who hadn’t arrived yet) we took Dan Cohen, CEO of PressPass TV for a run through the shakedown stage.

We came into the small service area after the run and pulled up to the DRT Service truck. As I’m getting out of the car with my helmet Bill Grooms walks up and says “Do you hear that?” With my helmet on connected to the intercom I cant hear anything from engine noise to outside noise but as soon as I took my helmet off completely – I heard that distinct sound of a bad rap in the engine. Unfortunately we where down LSPR even before it started.

The frustrating thing was that this was our spare motor that we just put in. The week before we had brought the car to have the engine tuned by a top notch tuner – not a guy who learned to tune during his spare time but one who had studied engine performance in college. Earlier in the day, while driving down the open road, we noticed the ECU was cutting out the fuel pump – after looking at the system we found out that the engine was hitting max boost and the cut out was a fail safe of the ECU itself. We couldnt get in-touch with the guy who tuned it but we came up with a solution to stop hitting max boost but it would seem the engine was damaged and it was only a matter of time before it failed.

Since I have a 8 month pregnant wife at home the next day Bill Grooms and I headed home. The rest of the team stayed to do some additonal onsite marketing and spectate the event.

Now we REALLY have some unfinished business at LSPR.
